MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and light rains are forecast to prevail over the country on Tuesday due to the easterlies and the northeast monsoon or amihan.

This forecast comes from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in a morning weather update.

State weather specialist Obet Badrina said the northeast monsoon will continue to affect areas of Northern and Central Luzon, bringing light rains to several areas.

“Ito [northeast monsoon] ang magdadala ng mga mahihinang pag-ulan, partikular na sa malaking bahagi ng Cagayan Valley, gayundin sa may area ng Cordillera [Administrative Region],” Badrina reported.

(The northeast monsoon will bring light rains, particularly over most of Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region.)

“Kasama ‘yung Aurora at Quezon, dulot ng pag-iral ng amihan,” he added.

(Aurora and Quezon will also experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon.)

Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon may experience isolated light rains from the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, areas of Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Davao de Oro in Mindanao will see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

“Ang easterlies o ‘yung hanging nagmumula sa karagatang Pasipiko ay patuloy na magdadala ng malalaking tsansa ng mga pag-ulan, lalong-lalo na sa may Silangang Mindanao,” Badrina noted.

(The easterlies, or winds from the Pacific Ocean, will continue to bring high chances of rainfall, especially in Eastern Mindanao.)

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

The state weather bureau also warned of possible flash floods or landslides in areas where the easterlies will prevail.

Pagasa hoisted a gale warning over the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the potential impacts of the northeast monsoon.

“Delikado maglayag ang mga maliliit na sasakyang pandagat, lalong-lalo na po ‘yung mga maliliit na mga bangka sa mga baybayin na Batanes, Cagayan, kasamang Baboyan Islands, sa Ilocos Norte at hilagang bahagi ng Ilocos Sur,” Badrina said.
